This can't get any sadder. I hope not :-(

My Uncle Andrew joined the Navy when he dropped out of college a little before he turned 20.
and my Uncle Jason joined the Marines when he was 18. He came home with a purple heart in 2003

This is giving me reminders of my own characters-the main character in my own current story series lost his father in the Vietnam War, although it was before he was born so he never even knew him at all. I'm not sure what would be harder-losing someone important to you WITHOUT getting to know them, or AFTER getting to know them. I'd say probably the latter but I wouldn't personally want to have either scenario befall myself, though sadly the latter WILL happen to us all at some point (I've had to see my grandparents die, for instance :()

I want to say Frey, I'm really digging what you've done with Sasha over the course of the strip. When she first showed up...several hundred strips ago as a duel generic antagonist alongside her brother facing off against the twins in the rally race (the kind that would twirl their mustaches while they laughed if they had them a la Snidely Whiplash) I didn't care for either her or Charley and all, and although I'm a latecomer to Transmission compared to some I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought along those lines. So I will come out and say when you brought her and Charley back a couple years ago I was...not exactly happy to see them return :D But I like how you've really fleshed out Sasha and shown there's a lot more to her. It's very easy as a writer to make an antagonistic character cut-and-dry evil with zero traces or comprehension/understanding of goodness, and indeed...I've fallen into this pitfall myself more than once. But real life isn't QUITE that simple y'know? You've done a wonderful job really making her come across in these last few arcs as a real person, someone I can actually sympathize. And over the course of this arc I've gone from being skeptical of her interest in Reggie to full-on supporting these two becoming a hot item. Yeah, I'm totally shippin' these two. The gal needs SOME good in her life, doesn't she? ;) 'Cause it's clear she's been short on that...

But yes, as sad as this is, my opinion on her is doing a 180, and like I said, kudos to you for fleshing her out rather than just leaving her as some generic antagonist character as I bet many suspected back when she first showed up years ago. Gah, this was such a long comment and I'm sorry if this hurts anybody's eyes, but when the strips get me to thinkin' sometimes I end up having a lot to say :D

Actually getting to give these characters a bit more backstory has been quite fun to do. It makes the characters more relatable :)

Really going into the territory of "feels" right here.

That is very sad. Losing a family overseas in a war is nothing short of tragic, and it happens way often than most people think.

All I can say is, Sasha and her brother don’t seem like bad seeds anymore.

I can tell this comic's getting better and better. I wonder what feels I'm going to encounter next :(

Most chapters are more light hearted and played for laughs, but every now and then it gets a bit more serious like this one. Glad you're enjoying it so far :)

It's saddening for the Slater siblings to lose their brother while to make ends meet in anyway they can. Adam joining the Army could have really helped them out, but...life does remind us it's not a fairy tale. :(
