Drum machines at least don't answer back nor do they go out of time!

One of the few sour experiences I had in Canada was the cold reception I got from the customs staff member. That was no way to encourage tourism!
FreyFox 16th Dec 2014, 1:00 AM edit delete reply
@Kangaar It's like US customs, or any customs for that matter. It's a lottery as to whether you get someone who is pleasant or not.

Well thankfully in an atypical moment I managed to say the right thing.
Customs lady:[Talking as though I'd just trodden on her toes] "Why have you come to Canada?"
Me: "I'm taking a holiday here."
Customs lady: "Why Canada?"
Me: "Because it's beautiful."
There is no response... Then she handed my passport back. :)

FreyFox 17th Dec 2014, 12:26 AM edit delete reply
@ThomasKDye And there's no shame in that ;)

To be bluntly honest, I've always preferred hearing actual drummers over drum machines. :D I'm honestly not the BIGGEST fan of electronic-sounding music though I have gotten into a bit more as I've gotten older. I can at least appreciate Kraftwerk :)

And yes, I can certainly imagine some customs officials giving you a pretty frosty reception to their country XD

Defacing a war memorial? I recall the son of a Pink Floyd member did that in UK (Cenotaph?)..Customs: Before 9-11 getting from US to Canada and back was easy, what is purpose of your visit, where are you from, how long are you staying. After, I know once I had to get out of the car after a random search. And leaving Canada after a quick day and a half, I mentioned I just went up there for a Montreal Expos baseball game, so they grilled me on what the final score was. Since my last visit they have instituted a passport requirement and I don't have one.

It's ridiculous how irrelevant the questions are now.
